No custom ports

My jabber server runs on port 50000 and I am not able to connect using this app. It says port out of range. But there are a total of 65,535 ports so why cant I use support 50,000?

Update: Still cannot get this to work even when its on the same local area network but separated through a firewall. I added a static route to my iPods host file and it still failing to translate the address.

Why does this app uses its own networking and not the devices default networking Settings?
